Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in OpenClaw up to 2026.8.0. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component Session-Memory Filename Generation. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. The summary by CVE is:
OpenClaw (npm package `openclaw`) before 2026.8.1 incorrectly enforces sender tool policies during session-memory filename generation. In affected versions, filename generation created an embedded helper that retained tools which the originating sender's policy had removed. When session-memory filename generation was enabled for an agent reachable by lower-trust senders, model-mediated instructions could cause the helper to invoke tools outside that sender's effective policy; the demonstrated impact was the creation of persistent scheduled work. Exploitability depends on the model acting on the injected instruction and on which tools the helper exposes. The issue is fixed in 2026.8.1; as a workaround, disable session-memory filename generation for agents reachable by lower-trust senders.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-100545 since 09/26/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1055 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 2026.8.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
