Details
A vulnerability was found in Axios up to 1.19.x. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function createConnection of the file lib/adapters/http.js of the component Node HTTP Adapter. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Axios is a promise-based HTTP client for the browser and Node.js. From 1.15.2 until 1.20.0, the Node HTTP adapter in lib/adapters/http.js supplies request options without an own createConnection value. A separate same-process prototype-pollution flaw places a function on Object.prototype.createConnection. Node resolves and invokes the inherited createConnection socket factory, allowing the attacker-controlled function to select the transport endpoint. The attacker endpoint can receive request headers and bodies, including credentials, and return attacker-controlled responses while the URL appears legitimate. This issue is fixed in version 1.20.0.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-101905 since 09/28/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
