Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in FreePBX up to 16.0.38/17.0.6. This affects an unknown code block of the component User Control Panel. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
FreePBX is an open source IP PBX. Prior to versions 16.0.39 and 17.0.7, users authenticated via User Control Panel (UCP) are able to execute arbitrary commands on the PBX as the webserver user (typically asterisk) using specially crafted HTTP strings. Authenticated access to UCP is required. Note that this is often more common for less-privileged users to have UCP access vs. the Administrator Control Panel (ACP) access (which is usually FreePBX higher-level administrator accounts only). Insufficient sanitization of certain URL parameters utilized by UCP did not fully account for malicious strings in these fields. This could result in binaries being executed on the host server by carefully chaining commands. This issue has been patched in versions 16.0.39 and 17.0.7.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-54674 since 06/16/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1202 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 16.0.39 or 17.0.7 eliminates this vulnerability.
