Details
A vulnerability has been found in grpc grpc-js up to 1.13.0/1.14.0 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component RBAC. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper authorization vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-285. The product does not perform or incorrectly performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
@grpc/grpc-js implements the core functionality of gRPC purely in JavaScript, without a C++ addon. Prior to 1.13.1 and 1.14.1, the exact path (method name) matcher used by RBAC performs a prefix comparison instead of an equality comparison when case-insensitive matching is enabled. If one service method name prefixes another and the methods have different access rules, a request for the longer method can match the shorter method's rule and cause incorrect authorization. This issue is fixed in versions 1.13.1 and 1.14.1.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-101914 since 09/28/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1548.002.
Upgrading to version 1.13.1 or 1.14.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
