CODESYS Control RTE Monitoring race condition

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in CODESYS Control RTE, Control RTE SL, Control Win, Control for BeagleBone SL, Control for emPC-A, Control for IOT2000 SL, Control for Linux ARM SL, Control for Linux SL, Control for PFC100 SL, Control for PFC200 SL, Control for PLCnext SL, Control for Raspberry Pi SL, Control for WAGO Touch Panels 600 SL, Development System 3, HMI, Runtime Toolkit, Safety SIL2 and Virtual Control SL. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Monitoring. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. As an impact it is known to affect integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Affected products do not properly synchronize access to their monitoring functionality. When multiple clients send concurrent requests, this may lead to incorrect reads or writes, or to corruption of internal memory structures. An authenticated remote attacker with monitoring access can exploit this issue to cause incorrect data processing or a denial-of-service condition.

The advisory is shared for download at certvde.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-79625 since 08/25/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
