Details
A vulnerability was found in OpenClaw Windows Node and classified as very critical. Affected by this issue is the function system.run of the component Environment Variable Sanitizer. The manipulation of the argument GIT_CONFIG_*/DOTNET_STARTUP_HOOKS/JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
OpenClaw Windows Node before 2026.7.1 contains an incomplete environment-variable sanitizer in system.run that fails to block GIT_CONFIG_*, DOTNET_STARTUP_HOOKS, and JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS variables. Attackers with gateway or agent access can supply these variables to allowlisted tools like git, dotnet, or java to load attacker-controlled code and achieve arbitrary code execution.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-101884 since 09/28/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/30/2026). This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
