Details
A vulnerability was found in py-pdf pypdf up to 6.17.x. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function read_until_whitespace of the file pypdf/_reader.py of the component PDF Reader. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.18.0, a crafted PDF containing indirect-object identifiers or generation-number tokens that continue for a long time without whitespace can cause pypdf/_reader.py and pypdf/generic/_base.py to scan excessive input through read_until_whitespace, resulting in long runtimes and application unavailability. This issue is fixed in version 6.18.0.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-102994 since 09/29/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy.
