Details
A vulnerability has been found in makeplane Plane up to 1.3.x and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function InstanceAdminSignUpEndpoint of the file apps/api/plane/license/api/views/admin.py of the component Account Creation. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Plane is an open-source project management tool. From 0.13 until 1.4.0, InstanceAdminSignUpEndpoint in apps/api/plane/license/api/views/admin.py:89-117, 173-229 uses InstanceAdmin.objects.first() for the first-admin check and performs account creation without an atomic transaction, row lock, uniqueness guard, or advisory lock. Two concurrent unauthenticated requests with different email addresses can both observe that no instance administrator exists, create separate User and InstanceAdmin rows, and receive sessions with instance-admin authority. This allows an attacker to share unrestricted instance administration with the legitimate operator. This issue is fixed in 1.4.0.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-104970 since 10/02/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
