Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in moby BuildKit up to 0.33.0. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Dockerfile Frontend. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
The Dockerfile frontend loaded the Dockerfile and .dockerignore files of a build context into memory without a size limit. A build context containing an oversized file could make buildkitd allocate memory proportional to that file, potentially exhausting memory and terminating the daemon, which interrupts other builds on the same instance. Fixed by rejecting such files above 16 MiB.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-93323 since 09/17/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
