Dovecot before 1.0.11, when configured to use mail_extra_groups to allow Dovecot to create dotlocks in /var/mail, might allow local users to read sensitive mail files for other users, or modify files or directories that are writable by group, via a symlink attack.
The bug was discovered 03/04/2008. The weakness was shared 03/06/2008 by Timo Sirainen (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-1199 since 03/06/2008. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
