Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in docling-project docling and docling-slim up to 2.130.x. Affected by this vulnerability is the function DoclingDocument._with_embedded_pictures/ImageRef.pil_image of the file docling/backend/json/docling_json_backend.py of the component InputFormat.JSON_DOCLING backend. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Docling simplifies document processing by parsing diverse formats and providing integrations with the generative AI ecosystem. From 2.16.0 until 2.131.0, the InputFormat.JSON_DOCLING backend in docling/backend/json/docling_json_backend.py validates serialized DoclingDocument input without rejecting picture image references that contain local paths or file URIs. When the document is enriched or exported with ImageRefMode.EMBEDDED, the DoclingDocument._with_embedded_pictures and ImageRef.pil_image methods can open those references and place readable image bytes in Markdown or HTML output. Disclosure is limited to files Pillow can decode as images, while differing decode behavior can also reveal whether a path exists. Direct untrusted loading through docling-core is outside this Docling fix. This issue is fixed in 2.131.0.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-105748 since 10/05/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 2.131.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
