CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.3-rc3. This affects the function p54_convert_rev0/p54_convert_rev1 of the component p54. The manipulation results in out-of-bounds. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-98188. The attack needs to be approached locally. There is no available exploit. You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 7.3-rc3. Affected is the function p54_convert_rev0/p54_convert_rev1 of the component p54. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: p54: validate curve data length in the calibration curve converters p54_convert_rev0() and p54_convert_rev1() read calibration curve data from the device-supplied EEPROM entry using channel and points-per-channel counts taken verbatim from that same entry, so an entry that declares more data than it carries drives an out-of-bounds read past the EEPROM buffer (verified with a KASAN reproducer of the conversion loop). The sibling converters p54_convert_output_limits() and p54_convert_db() already validate their counts against the entry length; this path was missed. Reject the entry when the counts do not fit in the entry data.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-98188 since 09/25/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 10/07/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.10.271, 5.15.222, 6.1.189, 6.6.158, 6.12.112, 6.18.54, 7.2.8 or 7.3-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 81084c967c18233b19799a0c3352ebac043f31e2/41cdf14bf4b52fbe4673a172c2a6ad756cb08111/03d313e3dfb49a44c10a5c423452967694fb85e2/42f4b03971f9d6329c4cbd1ea5155210d16ab65b/4d767d6f8753db22bfc14c2724bd9cee677ffb03/3bdcc4d61212b001b8752d80036509b4974ce16c/b0c906107150b16925ee66da09127259864c7f36/ce858fa6b8a214dee5adb82358885fa024cdd887 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-3743). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
