CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.111/6.18.53/7.2.7/7.3-rc3. It has been rated as very critical. This issue affects the function v9fs_issue_write of the component v9fs. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the properties that are required to process the data safely and correctly. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: 9p: Fix v9fs_issue_write() to update i_size and remote_i_size Fix v9fs_issue_write() to update i_size and remote_i_size to the new size of the server file if we made it larger, using the start fpos and the count returned by p9_client_write() to calculate the new minimum file size. This assumes that if the 9P server makes a short write (say it hits ENOSPC), a reduced count is returned.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-98267 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/06/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.112, 6.18.54, 7.2.8 or 7.3-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch aeb1fe55583836744aef11fbfa2a09122aa9816c/88871ab548c1d7b11cde9b04063f3c1c6fbd7039/9cd92e3392bdd14568e9e44aec1ac05e1fcd62e5/c60ae98c5aa64021751b38ab1313b19d620bf640 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
