Linux Kernel up to 7.3-rc3 Bluetooth ISO iso_conn_ready denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The affected component should be upgraded.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.157/6.12.111/6.18.53/7.2.7/7.3-rc3. Affected by this vulnerability is the function iso_conn_ready of the component Bluetooth ISO. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: ISO: Fix parent socket leak in iso_conn_ready() iso_get_sock() returns the parent socket with a reference held, which is dropped by sock_put() once the child socket has been set up. The error path taken when iso_sock_alloc() fails only calls release_sock() and returns, leaking the reference and thus the parent socket itself. Drop the reference on that path as well.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-98293 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/06/2026). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1499 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading to version 6.6.158, 6.12.112, 6.18.54, 7.2.8 or 7.3-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch ea8a262662be62c095789924c11722ecbf40a4de/9228f87365e68a6cae191f57f456e89a6d2167cf/e2b156a8d25966be49c1f809b654a2c4bb16564d/f016daabd4fec4e9b8563f8b6f42eabce0ca66b0/ca18ee413a7cb6f09885778039225e58bae0d607 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
