Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.111/6.18.53/7.2.7/7.3-rc3. Affected is the function ieee80211_stop_mesh of the component mac80211. The manipulation of the argument csa/csa_role/chsw_ttl with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mac80211: mesh: reset the CSA state when leaving ifmsh->csa is allocated in ieee80211_mesh_csa_beacon() and only freed in ieee80211_mesh_finish_csa(), i.e. when the channel switch completes. Leaving the mesh while a switch is still pending therefore leaks it. Additionally, ifmsh->csa_role and ifmsh->chsw_ttl have their state leak in this case, so things can get mixed up in addition to the memory leak. Refactor the reset and call it in ieee80211_stop_mesh() to fix it all.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-98327 since 09/25/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 10/06/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499.
Upgrading to version 6.12.112, 6.18.54, 7.2.8 or 7.3-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch aba8dfb45864441199748c33ce3c1c8ca121c8bd/bd3b21145ae2e781daac1bbd19216a63ab4e0cbd/ba5bf83a81e8832cb84bb3a2da67512f81f57a02/860134b3af77970e006feab7e5decb8c84771c7f is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
