Red Hat Enterprise Linux up to 10 DICOM Export out-of-bounds write

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6/7/8/9/10. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part of the component DICOM Export. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-787. The product writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

A heap-based buffer overflow was found in GIMP’s DICOM export plug-in. When exporting an image with extremely large width and height, the export path allocates a buffer using a 32-bit width * height (and bytes-per-pixel) product that can overflow. GEGL then writes the full uncompressed extent into the undersized buffer (CWE-787), after integer overflow in the allocation size

The advisory is shared at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-106063 since 10/06/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/06/2026).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
