Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Mozilla Node-convict 6.2.2. Affected is the function config.set of the component Config Set. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a prototype pollution vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-1321. The product receives input from an upstream component that specifies attributes that are to be initialized or updated in an object, but it does not properly control modifications of attributes of the object prototype. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Mozilla's Node-convict (version 6.2.2 and later) is vulnerable to a Denial of Service vulnerability caused by incomplete prototype‑pollution protections in config.set(). An attacker controlling the configuration key can write arbitrary properties to constructor.<key>, which walk() resolves to the global Object function. This allows overwriting core JavaScript methods such as Object.assign, leading to persistent process-wide failures and requiring a restart. The issue bypasses existing filters that only block constructor.prototype.* and __proto__.*. Exploitation requires an endpoint that forwards attacker-controlled keys into config.set().
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-106550 since 10/06/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 10/06/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
