async-http-client up to 2.16.0/3.0.11 Realm.Builder random values

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in async-http-client up to 2.16.0/3.0.11. It has been classified as problematic. Impacted is the function Realm.Builder. This manipulation causes random values. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-107283. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. There is no exploit available. Upgrading the affected component is recommended.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in async-http-client up to 2.16.0/3.0.11. Affected by this vulnerability is the function Realm.Builder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a random values vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-330. The product uses insufficiently random numbers or values in a security context that depends on unpredictable numbers. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

The AsyncHttpClient (AHC) library allows Java applications to easily execute HTTP requests and asynchronously process HTTP responses. Prior to 3.0.12 and 2.16.1, Realm.Builder generates the HTTP Digest client nonce with ThreadLocalRandom rather than a cryptographically secure random source. Digest relies on an unpredictable cnonce to resist chosen-plaintext and credential precomputation attacks, so an observer able to infer generator state can reduce the protection of the authentication exchange. This issue is fixed in versions 3.0.12 and 2.16.1.

The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-107283 since 10/07/2026. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600.001 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 2.16.1 or 3.0.12 eliminates this vulnerability.
