Details
A vulnerability was found in Brocade Fabric OS up to 10.0.0 and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the component Diagnostic Execution Utility. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the diagnostic execution utility of Brocade Fabric OS versions before 10.0.1. When processing command arguments for diagnostic operations, the utility tokenizes user-supplied input into an internal argument array without enforcing boundary checks on the maximum array capacity. An authenticated user with administrative access can exploit this vulnerability by supplying a crafted diagnostic command string containing an excessive number of tokenized arguments. This leads to a memory overwrite resulting in a denial of service (process crash).
The advisory is shared at support.broadcom.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-87668 since 09/09/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
Upgrading to version 10.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
