Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in Brocade Fabric OS up to 9.2.2c/10.0.0a1. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component Time/Zone Management Subsystem. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An OS command injection vulnerability exists in the time and zone management subsystem of Brocade Fabric OS versions before 9.2.2d and 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1. When updating system timezone settings via the REST API or configuration download routines, the system fails to sanitize input values before processing them in underlying shell execution routines. An authenticated user with low-privilege administrative access can exploit this vulnerability by submitting a crafted timezone string containing shell metacharacters. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to escape the restricted management environment and execute arbitrary shell commands with elevated privileges.
The advisory is shared for download at support.broadcom.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-87666 since 09/09/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 10/08/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
Upgrading to version 9.2.2d eliminates this vulnerability.
