Details
A vulnerability was found in freedesktop Poppler up to 26.10.0 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function Decrypt::revision6Hash of the component Decrypt. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. Impacted is integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Poppler 0.42.0 through 26.10.0 contains a stack-based buffer overflow in Decrypt::revision6Hash() that allows attackers controlling the password to overwrite stack memory when opening AESV3/R6 encrypted PDFs. Attackers can supply a password longer than 127 bytes through applications using the libpoppler, libpoppler-glib or C++ API to overflow the K1 and E buffers, crashing the process or corrupting memory.
The advisory is shared for download at gitlab.freedesktop.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-107705 since 10/08/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
