The bug was discovered 03/18/2008. The weakness was released 03/18/2008 by Stanford University (Jack) with Stanford University (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2008-1006 since 02/26/2008. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
