Details
A vulnerability was found in Spotweb up to 1.5.8. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function runcommand of the component NZB handler. The manipulation of the argument SPOTTITLE with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Spotweb through 1.5.8 contains an OS command injection vulnerability in the runcommand NZB handler that allows remote attackers to execute commands by publishing spots with malicious titles. Attackers can post self-signed spots over Usenet with shell metacharacters in the title, which are substituted unescaped for $SPOTTITLE and passed to exec() when a user downloads the spot, running commands as the Spotweb PHP process.
