Details
A vulnerability was found in GNU Emacs up to 31.1 and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function tramp-user-regexp of the component TRAMP. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
GNU Emacs before 31.2 (and TRAMP through 2.8.2) allows OS command injection via a filename because tramp-user-regexp has an incomplete list of disallowed inputs. NOTE: this issue exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2026-79992.
