A vulnerability was found in NetWin SurgeMail. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component IMAP Service. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Stack-based buffer overflow in the IMAP service in NetWin SurgeMail 38k4-4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code via long arguments to the LSUB command.
The weakness was disclosed 03/25/2008 by Leon Juranic (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-1497 since 03/25/2008. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
