Details
A vulnerability was found in FreeRDP up to 3.31.x. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function license_check_stream_length of the component License Check Stream. The manipulation of the argument scopeCount with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). As an impact it is known to affect integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
FreeRDP 3.0.0 before 3.32.0 contains an integer truncation vulnerability in license_check_stream_length that allows a malicious RDP server to trigger a heap buffer overflow on 32-bit clients. Attackers can send a crafted SERVER_LICENSE_REQUEST with a large scopeCount that bypasses length checks, causing out-of-bounds writes leading to denial of service or remote code execution.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-109255 since 10/12/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
