Details
A vulnerability has been found in FreeRDP up to 3.31.x and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function gdiVideoShowSurface of the component Video Surface. The manipulation of the argument topLevelLeft with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-787. The product writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
FreeRDP before 3.32.0 stores the server-supplied signed MS-RDPEGT geometry origin unchecked in an unsigned video surface coordinate, so the blit clamp in gdiVideoShowSurface() wraps in 32-bit arithmetic and is skipped. A malicious RDP server can send a negative topLevelLeft to clients connecting with /video, causing an out-of-bounds write of decoded H.264 picture data or a client abort.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-109251 since 10/12/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
