Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Craft CMS up to 4.18.6/5.10.13. Affected by this issue is the function AppController::actionCacheUpdates of the component UpdatesModel. The manipulation of the argument updates with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Craft CMS 4.0.0 before 4.18.7 and 5.0.0 before 5.10.14 passes the raw 'updates' request parameter in AppController::actionCacheUpdates to UpdatesModel without Component::cleanseConfig(), allowing behavior and event-handler injection. Authenticated control panel users with the performUpdates permission or Updates-utility access can supply 'as' or 'on' keys, such as an AttributeTypecastBehavior gadget, to execute arbitrary code.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-109308 since 10/12/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
