Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in -40-Thieves obsidian-tc up to 1.3.0 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Streamable HTTP transport. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a dns rebinding vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-350. The product performs reverse DNS resolution on an IP address to obtain the hostname and make a security decision, but it does not properly ensure that the IP address is truly associated with the hostname. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

obsidian-tc is a governed, agent-ready Model Context Protocol server for Obsidian vaults. Prior to 1.3.1, the Streamable HTTP transport does not validate the Host or Origin header or enable DNS-rebinding protection. When the documented loopback configuration uses auth.mode set to none, a malicious web page can send requests to the local MCP endpoint and receive unrestricted vault access through the http-local caller. Version 1.3.1 fixes the vulnerability by enabling host, origin, and DNS-rebinding validation.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-77363 since 08/20/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely.
