A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Mozilla SeaMonkey 1.1.8 (Web Browser). This affects some unknown processing of the component Java Plugin. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. LiveConnect in Mozilla Firefox before 2.0.0.13 and SeaMonkey before 1.1.9 does not properly parse the content origin for jar: URIs before sending them to the Java plugin, which allows remote attackers to access arbitrary ports on the local machine. NOTE: this is closely related to CVE-2008-1195.

The bug was discovered 03/25/2008. The weakness was presented 03/27/2008 by Gregory Fleischer (moz_bug_r_a4) with Mozilla Developers (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2008-1240 since 03/10/2008. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
