A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (Web Browser). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown function of the component XMLHttpRequest Calls Handler. The setRequestHeader method of the XMLHttpRequest object in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 does not restrict the dangerous Transfer-Encoding HTTP request header, which allows remote attackers to conduct HTTP request splitting and HTTP request smuggling attacks via a POST containing a "Transfer-Encoding: chunked" header and a request body with an incorrect chunk size.
The issue has been introduced in 07/27/2005. The weakness was presented 03/28/2008 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-1545 since 03/28/2008. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 975 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
