Details
A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Xen (version now known). Affected is some unknown processing of the component Grant Table. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
XSA-501 was about issues with v1 -> v2 and v2 -> v1 changes racing certain other grant table operations. Sadly a v2 -> v1 -> v2 change has yet another effect which wasn't accounted for: During the first change, status pages would be freed. During the second change they would be allocated again. Hence across the full pair of change the addresses of the status pages may change, rendering stale previously calculated pointers into the status array.
The advisory is shared for download at xenbits.xenproject.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-79610 since 08/25/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 10/13/2026).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
