Details
A vulnerability was found in OpenRemote up to 1.24.1. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function KNXProtocol.startAssetImport of the file agent/src/main/java/org/openremote/agent/protocol/knx/KNXProtocol.java of the component KNX handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
OpenRemote is an open-source internet-of-things platform. Prior to 1.24.2, the KNXProtocol.startAssetImport method in agent/src/main/java/org/openremote/agent/protocol/knx/KNXProtocol.java processes 0.xml from an authenticated user's uploaded ETS project ZIP with Saxon TransformerFactoryImpl and XMLInputFactory parsers that permit external entity resolution. This incomplete remediation of CVE-2026-40882 leaves the KNX handler unprotected while the parallel Velbus handler is hardened, allowing a regular realm user to read files accessible to the JVM process or cause server-side requests. This issue is fixed in version 1.24.2.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-54640 since 06/15/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 1.24.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
