Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Windows and classified as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the file ndis.sys of the component NDIS. The manipulation results in buffer overflow. This vulnerability is cataloged as CVE-2026-105007. The attack must be initiated from a local position. There is no exploit available. It is advisable to implement a patch to correct this issue.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, was found in Microsoft Windows. Affected is an unknown code of the file ndis.sys of the component NDIS. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists in the Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) when ndis.sys fails to check the length of a buffer prior to copying memory to it. To exploit the vulnerability, in a local attack scenario, an attacker could run a specially crafted application to elevate the attacker's privilege level. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could run processes in an elevated context. However, an attacker must first gain access to the local system with the ability to execute a malicious application in order to exploit this vulnerability. The security update addresses the vulnerability by changing how ndis.sys validates buffer length.

The advisory is shared for download at msrc.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-105007 since 10/02/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 10/13/2026).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
