A vulnerability was found in gnome screensaver 2.20.0. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function getpwuid. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. gnome-screensaver before 2.22.1, when a remote authentication server is enabled, crashes upon an unlock attempt during a network outage, which allows physically proximate attackers to gain access to the locked session, a related issue to CVE-2007-1859.
The bug was discovered 04/02/2008. The weakness was shared 05/03/2007 as Bug 435773 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-0887 since 02/21/2008. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
