Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (version now known). This issue affects some unknown processing of the component libgstcodecparsers. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-787. The product writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Impacted is integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

A flaw was found in GStreamer's H.266 codec parser library (libgstcodecparsers). An out-of-bounds write vulnerability exists in the DCI parsing function, where a reserved field value is incorrectly accepted, causing the parser to write beyond the bounds of an internal structure. An attacker could exploit this by providing a specially crafted H.266 bitstream to a third-party application that uses this library API, potentially causing a crash or memory corruption. No standard GStreamer pipeline element currently invokes the affected code path.

The advisory is shared at access.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-100229 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/14/2026).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
