A vulnerability was found in Oracle Database Server 10.1.0.5 (Database Software). It has been classified as very critical. Affected is an unknown part. The manipulation of the argument aq$_register with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. Unspecified vulnerability in the Advanced Queuing component in Oracle Database 9.0.1.5 FIPS+, and 10.1.0.5 has unknown impact and remote attack vectors related to SYS.DBMS_AQJMS_INTERNAL, aka DB15. NOTE: the previous information was obtained from the April 2008 CPU. Oracle has not commented on reliable researcher claims that DB15 is for multiple buffer overflows in the (1) AQ$_REGISTER and (2) AQ$_UNREGISTER procedures.
The weakness was disclosed 04/16/2008 (Website). The advisory is available at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-1821. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. A authentication is necessary for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD at the moment (estimation calculated on 02/01/2025).
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56060 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (April 2008 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19232 (Oracle April 2008 Security Update Multiple Vulnerabilities).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 6063.
