CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.111/6.18.53/7.2.7/7.3-rc3 and classified as critical. The impacted element is the function pwrseq_unit_new of the component Power Sequencing. Performing a manipulation results in null pointer dereference. This vulnerability is reported as CVE-2026-98412. The attack is possible to be carried out remotely. No exploit exists. The affected component should be upgraded.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.111/6.18.53/7.2.7/7.3-rc3. This affects the function pwrseq_unit_new of the component Power Sequencing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: power: sequencing: fix NULL-pointer dereference in pwrseq_unit_new() If memory allocation fails in pwrseq_unit_setup_deps(), pwrseq_unit_put() is called to release the partially initialized unit. However, we've never initialized unit->list and pwrseq_unit_release() will unconditionally call list_del() on it. Initialize unit->list right after allocating the unit struct.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-98412 since 09/25/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/14/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.112, 6.18.54, 7.2.8 or 7.3-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 29e03670cc384561a2037c69b0a1cc5232d3c6c3/859880b07a75c7a29d141abfacbd750d25a8e920/6e571aea60de7f4c62b77510495d1bcc7df406a1/115b303e8e093d964089ec6f3c40d984d77b33d0 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
