Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in NASA F Prime up to 4.1.x. Affected by this issue is the function Svc::FileUplink::handleDataPacket. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
F´ (F Prime) is a framework that enables development and deployment of spaceflight and other embedded software applications. Prior to 4.2.0, Svc::FileUplink handleDataPacket offset and size validation is vulnerable because the component checks byteOffset plus dataSize with wrapping U32 arithmetic and then seeks to the large attacker-controlled offset before writing. When a file-uplink DATA packet supplies a byteOffset and dataSize whose unsigned sum wraps below the declared file size, data can be written beyond the declared upload size, causing file integrity loss and potentially large sparse-file growth or resource exhaustion. This issue is fixed in version 4.2.0.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-92154 since 09/15/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 4.2.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
