Details
A vulnerability was found in error311 FileRise up to 3.15.x. It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown code block. The manipulation of the argument X-Remote-User with an unknown input leads to a improper authentication vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-287. When an actor claims to have a given identity, the product does not prove or insufficiently proves that the claim is correct. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
FileRise is a self-hosted web-based file manager with multi-file upload, editing, and batch operations. Prior to 3.16.0, FileRise deployments with AUTH_BYPASS enabled trust the configured reverse-proxy identity header without verifying that the request originated from FR_TRUSTED_PROXIES. When the backend application port is reachable directly, an unauthenticated attacker can supply X-Remote-User and obtain a session for the asserted account, including an administrator account, without a password or MFA. The flaw is limited to deployments that enable proxy-header authentication and expose an untrusted path to the backend. This issue is fixed in version 3.16.0.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-57489 since 06/24/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 3.16.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
