Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in error311 FileRise up to 3.22.x. This affects an unknown functionality of the component TOTP Handler. The manipulation of the argument SESSION with an unknown input leads to a excessive authentication vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-307. The product does not implement sufficient measures to prevent multiple failed authentication attempts within a short time frame, making it more susceptible to brute force attacks. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
FileRise is a self-hosted web-based file manager with multi-file upload, editing, and batch operations. Prior to 3.23.0, FileRise stores failed TOTP verification attempts in $_SESSION. An attacker who already possesses a target account's valid primary credential can restart the login workflow in a new session and restore the second-factor attempt allowance, permitting continued online TOTP guessing beyond the intended five-attempt limit. The pending-login TOTP handlers did not share a durable account-wide limit. This issue is fixed in version 3.23.0.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-103977 since 10/01/2026. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1110.001 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 3.23.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
