Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in error311 FileRise up to 3.22.x. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block. The manipulation of the argument preferred_username/email with an unknown input leads to a improper authentication vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-287. When an actor claims to have a given identity, the product does not prove or insufficiently proves that the claim is correct. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

FileRise is a self-hosted web-based file manager with multi-file upload, editing, and batch operations. Prior to 3.23.0, FileRise maps an authenticated OIDC identity to a local account using mutable preferred_username or email claims and does not require email_verified for email-based naming. An attacker who can obtain provider-issued claims colliding with an existing local username can be logged in as that account, including the built-in administrator, even when automatic provisioning is disabled. Exploitability depends on the configured identity provider allowing the colliding claim. This issue is fixed in version 3.23.0.

The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-104108 since 10/01/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 3.23.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
