Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Nodemailer up to 10.0.12. Affected is the function SMTPConnection._actionEHLO of the component Auth Mechanism Detection. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a redos vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-1333. The product uses a regular expression with an inefficient, possibly exponential worst-case computational complexity that consumes excessive CPU cycles. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
Nodemailer 3.0.0 before 10.0.13 has a regular expression denial of service in SMTPConnection._actionEHLO, whose four AUTH mechanism detection regexes contain overlapping whitespace sub-patterns that backtrack quadratically. A malicious or man-in-the-middle SMTP server can reply to EHLO with 250-AUTH, a long whitespace run and a non-matching token, blocking the Node.js event loop for tens of seconds to hours before authentication.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-110869 since 10/15/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy.
