Details
A vulnerability was found in FreeBSD (version unknown). It has been classified as very critical. Affected is the function renameat of the component Jail. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-284. The product does not restrict or incorrectly restricts access to a resource from an unauthorized actor. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
renameat(2) did not enforce FD_RESOLVE_BENEATH on its directory arguments. A jailed process could rename a directory relative to a restricted descriptor, then escape the jail root via fchdir(2). This requires the directory to reside on a filesystem that is also reachable from the jail's root. A process in a jail that has received a directory file descriptor from another jail can use these techniques to escape the jail's filesystem root restriction.
The advisory is shared for download at security.freebsd.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-101305 since 09/28/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx.
