Details
A vulnerability has been found in EspoCRM up to 9.3.8 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component Email Received Stream Notification. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:
EspoCRM is an open source customer relationship management application. Prior to 9.3.9, an unauthenticated remote attacker can send an email to a monitored group or IMAP address, including an email-to-Case address, and place arbitrary HTML in its plain-text body. EspoCRM stores that body and renders it without escaping in Email Received stream notification emails sent to users following the related record, allowing HTML injection and, in mail clients that execute it, JavaScript execution. Earlier sanitization for Post and Mention notifications did not cover this notification path. This issue is fixed in version 9.3.9.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-59994 since 07/07/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
Upgrading to version 9.3.9 eliminates this vulnerability.
