Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in FreeRDP up to 3.31.x. Affected is the function persistent_cache_read_entry_v2 of the component Persistent Cache. The manipulation of the argument height with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
FreeRDP before 3.32.0 contains a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in persistent_cache_read_entry_v2 that allows local attackers to corrupt heap memory via integer wraparound in bitmap size calculation. Attackers can craft a persistent cache v2 file with oversized width and height values that causes mismatched entry size accounting and fixed 16 KiB reads, leading to crashes or code execution when loaded.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-111381 since 10/15/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 3.32.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
