Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in pupnp up to 2.0.1. Affected is the function http_RecvMessage of the file upnp/src/genlib/net/http/httpreadwrite.c of the component HTTP Parser. The manipulation of the argument content_length with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
pupnp is an SDK for development of UPnP device and control point applications. Prior to 2.0.2, Transfer-Encoding: chunked causes the HTTP parser in upnp/src/genlib/net/http/httpparser.c to leave parser->content_length at zero while parser_parse_chunky_entity and parser_parse_chunky_body accumulate decoded bytes in parser->msg.entity. The g_maxContentLength checks in http_RecvMessage in upnp/src/genlib/net/http/httpreadwrite.c therefore reject oversized numeric Content-Length bodies but do not enforce the same limit on decoded chunked bodies. A remote peer that can reach a SOAP, GENA, miniserver, or control-point HTTP response path can make the process buffer an entity larger than the configured maximum, causing resource exhaustion and denial of service. This issue is fixed in 2.0.2.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-57487 since 06/24/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499.
Upgrading to version 2.0.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
