Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Red Hat Enterprise Linux and OpenShift Container Platform (affected version unknown). Affected is an unknown functionality of the component fsidd daemon. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a assertion vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-617. The product contains an assert() or similar statement that can be triggered by an attacker, which leads to an application exit or other behavior that is more severe than necessary. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
A flaw was found in nfs-utils. The fsidd daemon improperly handles input received over its local domain socket by relying on program assertions to verify command arguments. A local user can exploit this vulnerability by sending a malformed request lacking the required arguments to trigger an assertion failure. This causes the daemon to crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) for filesystem identifier lookup services until restarted.
