Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in True Audio libtta up to 2.3. Affected by this issue is the function tta_decoder_process_stream/tta_decoder_process_frame of the component Decoder. The manipulation of the argument channel count with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
libtta through 2.3 contains a stack out-of-bounds read and write vulnerability in tta_decoder_process_stream() and tta_decoder_process_frame() because header checks never reject a zero channel count. Attackers can supply a crafted .tta file declaring zero channels so decorrelation accesses cache[-1] with stream-derived values, corrupting stack memory in decoding applications.
The advisory is shared for download at hackmd.io. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-112012 since 10/18/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 10/18/2026).
