CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.112/6.18.55/7.2.9/7.3-rc5. This issue affects the function wfx_hif_read_mib of the component wfx. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: wfx: validate MIB read length before copying to caller wfx_hif_read_mib() copies reply->length bytes from the firmware response into the caller-provided buffer without checking that reply->length does not exceed val_len. A firmware response with a length field larger than expected overruns the caller buffer and reads past the end of the reply allocation. Replace the dead -ENOMEM check with an active validation that reply->length fits within val_len before the memcpy.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-98830 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/18/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.113, 6.18.56, 7.2.10 or 7.3-rc6 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 71d140099165de03128c00dd129f1eab21c6a3c4/7acb36fd60a3e7b858f12e69a919c3609b281408/ce67ebe9d8629776ce38e6995ae72fb903c828db is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
